I am a software developer jack-of-all-trades. Constantly learning new things and always thinking outside of the box. I have 0 ego, love collaboration, focus more on building -things- than on how they are built, and I like to get things done.

I would like to build a sensor that we can sell to cities or towns, so they can easily monitor when the crossings are occupied and/or blocked. The sensor would then pipe date to a web service for tracking and a mobile app could be used to access that information. Our target market would be the cities themselves and the app/service would be white-labeled.

I am looking for someone who is interested in hardware. Building out the physical unit is the most complex part of the project. The railroad companies are not interested in helping ease this problem and cities don't want to spend money running wires. It has to be solar powered, use some type of detection (solar, ultrasonic, visual, etc), and use some IoT technology to communicate.

This is a real problem. I've lived it for the last 10 years and I've heard the frustration from others living in the midwest. I feel like it's a large pain that is in need of a solution.
