I have not researched the industry but typically it would require investing in advertising on other game platforms that utilize ads to attain free “gems” within a game. From there the ad must be compelling enough to get a good push. I would look up YouTubers and other popular streamers who do game reviews as well, reach out to see if they can’t try your game out (which is free), if they like it they may stream it. Next I would also reach out to gamer communities to push the platform via Reddit and discord groups. Join discord groups for gaming (other games) and invite them to test out your game, will get initial users that way. Next is international downloads.. this is a lot to type on my phone so I’d encourage you to reach out to me directly to go more in depth. Cheers!
If you want to reach a billion downloads, you need a solid launch strategy.
Start by doing a soft launch in countries with lower ad costs and active users like Brazil, Mexico, or the Philippines. This helps you test the game, fix bugs, and optimize performance before going global.
Your app store page is important—make sure your icon, screenshots, and trailer grab attention immediately. Use platforms like TikTok and YouTube Shorts to post short gameplay clips, challenges, and reactions. Reach out to small creators who might be willing to post about your game. This can help it go viral.
Add a simple referral system so players can earn rewards for inviting friends. This can really boost your user base.
Once you know what works, run paid ads through Facebook, Google, or Unity to scale up.
Also, keep improving the game. High retention and regular updates will drive more organic growth over time.
