Any developers here with AI and Machine Learning experience?

I'm looking for developers who have worked with AI and Machine Learning technology before.

What is the best way to search for someone with these skill-sets?

I've built startups before using normal tech stacks, but it's the first time I take on something using AI principles. What should I be looking for? What are the right questions to ask?

Thanks!

I think you should start with understanding whether they have the right understanding and problem-solving skills before testing their AI/ML skills. Once you are sure they have enough understanding of how to articulate and structure a problem you can look at their past projects and the level of complexity they can handle - although to do that here you might need someone who is an expert in AI/ML.

Hope this helps

Firstly, it is not very clear what you are asking by "developers who have worked with AI and Machine Learning technology". In the industry, the experts in AI/ML are not the developers, but the Data Scientists. Having said that, there are other roles that work closely with Data Scientists, such as Data Engineers, Machine Learning Engineers, Product (not Project) Managers (PM), ...

Secondly, assuming that (a) you are still at an early stage (idea, business planning, ...) and (b) no one in your team has expertise in AI/ML, then it is highly unlikely that you will need a Data Scientist from the beginning. It is more important to have someone from Day 0 who is a PM and ideally worked with AI products before. The most difficult challenge with AI products is how you productize them, not the technical/scientific expertise behind AI. The technology behind AI (typically found in academia) is too advanced for what it is needed in the industry, especially for a startup at early stage with no Data Science co-founders.

A freelancer website, such as Fiverr (https://www.fiverr.com/categories/programming-tech/data-analysis-services/machine-learning), should be more than fine. Once you get passed the MVP, then it might be time to hire someone full-time. When that time arrives, just find a Data Scientist you trust to ask him for technical questions. My advice would be to totally avoid asking candidates technical interview questions him yourself or anyone who is not from an AI/ML/DS background. Just ask him non-technical questions and let a Data Scientists ask him the technical questions.

I hope my advice helps.

Any N number of freelancing sites including upwork, freelancer, fiverr or many other can get you in touch with developers claiming to be masters at what they do. The best thing in my opinion would be to start small with a MVP which has already been mentioned by other commentators and while it may be a bit cheap to hire folks who are in foreign countries as the development cost is lower, I would suggest you try and find teams closer to your location who are subject to the same laws as you are and can hold them responsible if they don`t perform as promised. Also having someone work in your timezone is definitely beneficial than hiring someone thousands of miles away.

Search LinkedIn for Graduates of Flatiron School Data Science bootcamp. Search “Flatiron Data Science Fellow.” Most of us (I graduated there) are not developers. Some of us know programming outside of Python but it’s rare to find someone who knows full stack and data science. ML is a robust knowledge base. Most of us know enough Python to do data science, as well as basic stuff like git, terminal, SQL, and enough HTML to webscrape, but are not at the level of programming expertise as a developer. I know a data scientist who is self-taught full stack- he says it is too many skills to keep current on. They are really separate fields.

I have finished many projects from the ground up in recent years, including AI systems, blockchains, native iOS / Android apps, and websites that need to consider massive amounts of data and high security.

Take AI for an example, it involves a lot of domain knowledge that is different from blockchain, mobile app, and website.

For example, Perceptron is a term of machine learning.

On the one hand, it’s hard for experts like full-end engineers, blockchain engineers, or mobile app engineers to understand what a perceptron is.

On the other hand, I use Objective-C/Swift to develop native iOS apps, and Java/Kotlin to develop native Android apps. And it’s also hard to find an AI expert who has Objective-C/Swift/Java/Kotlin skills at the same time.

However, I’m the exception. I have been researching and studying the latest technology, and I am currently studying quantum physics and quantum algorithms. Furthermore, I am continuously doing projects, and cooperating with other experts to develop a variety of high quality products.

p.s. There are many routes to realize AI, including Machine learning, Data mining, Traditional AI(game tree), etc. The picture below is an example of Perceptron. The bank expects to automatically verify the credit card application through AI. The problem they expect AI to solve is “Whether to approve the credit card application of the applicant or not?”

Every business idea in today's world requires application development need. Whenever someone starts an idea from scratch, they research and search for an application with unique value properties. It remains to be determined how to proceed. Well, there are two options here, either to develop the application internally or to hand it over to a third-party developer.
