I've been advertising for a Sales Manager but the response rate is low, how can I improve it?

I've been advertising for a Sales Manager but the response rate is low, how can I improve it?

I am primarily looking in the North East of England, but I found that there are few recruitment agencies in the area that specialise in sales.

Another thing I noticed is that there is a lot of competition from other companies also looking for the same people.

I'm actively offering £10,000 more than other employers to try and stand out but so far I've only had two candidates and neither were a good fit.

I am posting on job boards online at the moment and using social media to promote the position available.

@Matthew

What industry are you in? Depending on the industry, it may be best to target those with similar sales background (not necessarily the same industry, but even other verticals which use the same methods)

Is this outside sales, cold-calls, hourly, commission, b2b, b2c?

Whatever information you can provide will help me assess how I would go about hiring a Sales Manager. Hope this helps!

Thanks for your response Brett.

At the moment I'm not limiting myself to any particular industry, I've been around various job boards and placed job adverts and the response rate has been low, as in I've posted 7 job adverts and had 3 responses.

I think at the moment the problem is I'm not really sure how to approach this because in the past when I've done hiring I've always gone to recruitment agencies that specialise in the area I'm recruiting for but it seems either I'm not using the right search terms in Google or there genuinely aren't many recruitment agencies around that specialise in sales.

The role is for a Sales Manager, so I would be putting the responsibility onto the Sales Manager to decide on the strategy to use, I don't have any experience in this area so it seems prudent to bring someone onboard who does. What I was hoping for was to find someone who has connections that can then be approached to get some contracts signed, and then once we've tried that avenue we can then start to look at other options such as what you've listed. My aim is to have a team that can scale so that as a company we can grow. I'm open to getting a consultancy company in who can help guide me in building a sales team too or a contractor who can get one off the ground for me.

Maybe now adays people are more interested in adds and the art of the speaker you need to put a little creativity in what you are doing and before you even start make sure to write down anything you wanna work on so that when u get new members you will be able to organize your work and your requests

Hi Matthew, there are a huge number of jobs out there at the moment and not enough clients. What's the link to the ad. I might be able to offer some tips. I'm not a recruiter, just a guy who helps people remove blockers... cheers, Colin

The biggest question is where are you being seen?

Find out where sales reps look to find new jobs and place an ad in the right place. If you are offering 10k more than your competitors then I would suggest head hunting.
Find candidates that you believe would be a perfect fit within your company.
I have had great success doing this on LinkedIn.
